ROMAN STONE QUARRIES

In the history, Splitska was mentioned for the first time as an export port for stone blocks used for construction of Diocletian Palace in Split, listed by the UNESCO as the World Heritage Site. Stone used for the construction of the palace was collected in quarries above the village – Plate, Rasohe and Stražišće. In Rasohe quarry can be found the relief of Hercules, mythological creature and the most famous of the Greek mythological heroes, protector of slaves. A 2 km thematic trail “Hercules” which starts in Splitska seafront will bring you to the entrance of the quarry.
